JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Purpose
Reporting directly to the Head of Operational Engineering, the Technical Health and Safety Officer will work closely with the Technical Services Managers to ensure correct management of all health and safety aspects of project and maintenance work within the respective domains. The role will involve the establishment, monitoring and development of safe systems of work for maintenance and installation of equipment both by internal Technical Services Staff and Specialist support contractors.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business units to establish robust safe systems of work to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of employees in accordance with legislative and associated regulatory requirements as well as common law duty of care. Key business activities include installation/maintenance of electrical equipment, working at heights, travel to remote sites, lone working, building maintenance.
- Review and updating of site documentation such as Site Health and Safety Plans, Site Health and Safety Files, Method Statements and H&S Risk Assessments.
- Develop new (as appropriate) and review existing H&S processes, procedures, and documentation. Identify gaps and update as required.
- Carry out the duties of Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) co-ordinator on projects of varying sizes and complexities.
- Conduct regular H&S checks and audits including hazard identification and risk assessment, with a hands-on approach, promoting the importance of H&S within each Technical Services Domain. Address and document issues and areas for improvement by working with supervisors and management to ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
- Provide regular periodic reports on H&S compliance to the Head of Operational Engineering and appropriate postholders including the Airnav Health and Safety Manager.
- Schedule technical health and safety training at appropriate intervals for employees within Technical Services.
- Ensure all employees and subcontractors are fully compliant with and aware of all relevant Health, Safety & Welfare at Work legislation and associated regulations.
- Maintain and update all site registers and statutory forms as required.
- Assist in accident/incident reporting and subsequent investigations, detailing the nature, extent, and impact of the incident, and including all corrective actions taken to minimize effects and prevent recurrence.
- Organise and conduct regular safety training sessions for employees, contractors, and visitors to promote safety awareness and compliance. Prepare informative materials and provide safety-related communications, including Safety Action Plans and Toolbox Talks, to enhance understanding and engagement.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation relating to health & safety training, risks assessments, mitigating measures, accidents & incidents and other safety related matters on behalf of Technical Services.
- Assist with the appointment of specialist contractors/consultants in relation to assessment of suitability.
- This role will have a national scope as Airnav operates a number of diverse sites across Ireland. It is anticipated that the role will be located in either the Dublin or Shannon air traffic control centre and that regular travel will be required to sites for the purposes of audits, inspections and project support

In addition to direct reporting relationship, the post holder is required to have close liaison with all personnel and Directorates in the Company.

The postholder is required to liaise with all appropriate external bodies, providers, suppliers and companies.
