Guide to Air Traffic Management OperationsEven to the most seasoned traveller, the world of air traffic control remains a mystery. The Guide to Air Traffic Management Operations has been produced to assist our stakeholders and the broader public to understand how air traffic control works and to provide insight into everyday occurrences at airports. Air traffic management includes the provision of operational services, namely air traffic control, engineering and communications in airspace controlled by Ireland and the provision of the related air traffic control infrastructure. Air traffic control is used to manage the safe and orderly flow of aircraft into, out of, and across Irish airspace, as well as at our three state airports; Dublin, Cork and Shannon. Our air traffic controllers keep aircraft at safe distances from each other in the air and on the ground, while arranging them in an optimised order for takeoff or landing along organised flight paths. We use systems and processes to remove the risk of collisions, while allowing the maximum number of aircraft to fly safely in our skies. As airspace gets busier, and at peak times, this becomes increasingly challenging. |
