JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Purpose
The Head of Operational Safety is accountable to AirNav Ireland’s Director of ATM Operations and Strategy for the provision of advice, support and analysis on the performance of the operational safety management system in compliance with aviation regulatory requirements.
In addition, the Head of Operational Safety will work in conjunction AirNav Ireland’s Head of Safety Management Unit, assisting and supporting them in meeting their overall responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of an effective SMS on behalf of the organisation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that the Safety Management System is implemented effectively and consistently across the AirNav Ireland Operational Business units, providing objective evidence that they are discharging their safety accountabilities and responsibilities.
- Ensure that an explicit, proactive approach to safety management is maintained within the AirNav Ireland Operational Business Units, and that safety is given the highest priority during the development of Operations and Strategy (OAS) Directorate’s strategic plans and projects.
- Provide the Director of ATM Operations and Strategy, independent oversight of the risk profile at all operational units, with an accurate risk picture, including hazard identification, risk management and safety performance monitoring.
- Ensure a consistent approach to operational safety surveys and safety audits across all units, including timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Promote proactive hazard reporting.
- Attend and report on Operational Safety at the Safety Review Board and Security Review Group
- Support the Director of ATM Operations and Strategy by bringing expertise and monitoring alongside the Unit Safety Managers to ensure that risks and controls are properly managed.
- Translate strategic risk goals into Operational Safety goals.
- Actively monitor Operational Safety management performance of operational units and initiate actions to strengthen results.
- Represent the ANSP at appropriate national and international fora or as directed by the Director of ATM Operations and Strategy.
- All duties as outlined and in accordance with the Security Management Manual.
- Other duties as may be assigned, where appropriate.

Internal:
In addition to direct reporting relationship above the postholder is required to liaise with all personnel and Directorates in the ANSP in particular with the Head of AirNav Ireland’s Safety Management Unit and General Managers.
External:
The postholder is required to liaise with all appropriate external bodies, providers, suppliers, and companies.
