Aeronautical Radio Officer

AirNav Ireland is a commercial semi-state company that provides air traffic management (ATM) services in Irish airspace and at State airports and communication services on the eastern North Atlantic.   North Atlantic Communications (NAC) provides operational services on a 24-hour basis 365 days per annum. 

We are currently seeking applications for the position of Aeronautical Radio Officer based in Shannon, Co. Clare. The salary scale for the Aeronautical Radio Officer ranges from €41,921 to €84,784 and entry in will be at the first scale point.  This grade also attracts a shift premium, and all training will be provided.

Job Purpose

An Aeronautical Radio Officer is required to perform operational duties by engaging in assigned duties that ensure the safe and efficient operation of aeronautical communications services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaison between pilots of aircraft and oceanic air traffic control centres.
  • Provide joint aeronautical communications with NARTEL stations.
  • Tasks related to Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
  • Co-ordination with radio network centres, airline operating companies and the offices of MET, AIS and other such agencies.
  • Operation of computer-based flight data processing systems.
  • Operation of computer-based message switching system for the exchange of internal flight data.
  • Supervision of automated broadcast system for the dissemination of weather information to aircraft in flight.
  • Other duties as may be assigned, where appropriate.

In addition to direct reporting relationship(s), the post holder is required to have close liaison with all personnel and Directorates in the Company including: Head of Operations NAC, ATS/AIS/ENG Shannon, Dublin and Cork, Eng Division NAC

  External:                      

  The postholder is required to liaise with all appropriate external bodies, providers, suppliers and companies including AFTN subscribers at Irish Airports; MET centres,     Irish Coastguard; Irish Air Corps; Irish Naval Service; Shanwick Oceanic Air Traffic Control, Prestwick, Scotland, Noth Atlantic Aeronautical Communications Centres at Gander,   Reykjavik, Santa Maria and New York. 

 

PERSON SPECIFICATON

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills

          Essential:              

  • Typing – speed not less than 30 words per minute, accuracy not less than 75%.
  • English Language Proficiency (ELPAC Level 5)
  • Good analytical and IT skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

          Desirable:

  • Appropriate third level qualification.

Successful candidates must also pass an ELPAC (level 5) English Proficiency Assessment.
